    Bell-ringing ceremony, hiking Namsan Mountain, and other free events to be held in Seoul

    – (Bell-ringing ceremony) Bell-ringing ceremony and musical performances to be held in observance of the 78th anniversary of Korean liberation – (Hiking the Namsan Dulle-gil) 200 Scouts to practice their scouting spirit along the trail from Namsan Hanok Village to N Seoul Tower – Numerous free cultural events including DJs, dancing, and opera performances to be held in Gwanghwamun Square – Crowd and traffic control to be thoroughly managed for a safe experience in Seoul The Seoul Metropolitan Government (SMG) will be hosting cultural experience programs for the World Scout Jamboree in the metropolitan area of Seoul to foster the spirit of challenging oneself and mutual understanding and cultural exchange. The program will start at Bosingak Belfry, a historical location of Seoul for the bell-ringing ceremony, which will take place in observance of the 78th anniversary of the national liberation, at 11:30 AM on August 15. In addition to the bell-ringing ceremony, the event will feature a performance of the musical “Hero” that conveys the story of the Korean independence movement as well as a choir performance. * National Liberation Day of Korea (Gwangbokjeol): A public holiday in Korea to celebrate the liberation of the Korean peninsula from Japan (August 15) * Bosingak Belfry: 54 Jong-ro, Jongno-gu, Seoul (near Jonggak Station (Subway Line 1)) Hiking the Namsan Dulle-gil has been ongoing since August 9 to build healthy minds and bodies while spending time in nature. This two-hour trail route from Namsan Hanok Village to N Seoul Tower starts at 6 PM and is open to 200 participants every day. Particularly from Sat, August 12 to Tue, August 15, two sessions are held daily at 9 AM and 6 PM for 1,000 participants each. Applications can be made through the program supporters stationed in accommodations provided by the Seoul Metropolitan Government. Registration can also be made on-site. Other free performances including DJs, dancing, and opera are available for anyone from scouts and the citizens of Seoul in Gwanghwamun Square until September. Meanwhile, the SMG has announced it is paying particular attention to the safety of the scouts throughout the cultural events. The city is operating its safety management system in cooperation with the National Police Agency, Fire & Disaster Headquarters, and District Offices, and has expanded dispatched safety agents and information centers.
