I lived in Seoul for more than 6 years and worked as a Professor of Computer Graphic Design at Chungkang College of Cultural Industries. While working at CK, I gave my heart, soul and sweat daily to make a difference in young aspiring Korean designers and artists. Although, I am an American, and although I have traveled the world, Korea is where I left my heart and it is where it still remains – and someday, I hope to come back home. I made this ink & brush Taeguk design keeping in mind that I wanted something that could be used as a symbol of Seoul that could be printed on every graphic communication for the city. The feeling needed to be simple but evocative, recognizable and unforgettable, and ultimately, it needed a sense of motion that Seoul is on the move upwardly yet still rooted in its traditional culture. The Taeguk seems to spin with motion, and the trigram symbolizes sky or heaven. So Seoul is moving upwards and onwards as the city that never sleeps. I hope you will love it as much as I love this country.
